The Black Panther class destroyer is a common site in the empire and is one of the work horse classes of the fleet, and has been given numerous class upgrades since its introduction. The class being in service for over 400 years shows the success and durability of the class. The Black Panther class is one of the few ship classes left along with Dagger Class battlecruiser, and the Peacekeeper Class battleships that predates the first Sabor war. Once the empire got through its early growing pains military outposts were set up to get closer and closer to the ever expanding fringe to bring order.
Repair and service facilities were build throughout the empire to support the ship class that at one time numbered over 5000 in service. In the history of the class over 20,000 were produced. One aspect to the success of the class besides its rugged survivability especially for an escort was it's modular design. The ship was composed of 20 modules that could be individually replaced and upgraded as they were damaged. The upgrades even went on to include the phalanx weapons system. Proteus designs the ships builder always had enough modules on hand to launch at least 2 new ships at all thier facilities. This meant that a Black Panther Class sustaining damage on the fringe could be back service in days sometimes even hours.
While the old Black Panther class was a very effective design. The newer Black Panthers while looking the same is all new form the inside out. With the new upgrades the ships as still in service today.
